Leap second issues on Debian based servers

A so-called “leap second” was added to the global time system last night - so the day was extended by one second. Background information on this leap second can be found at heise.de.

Unfortunately, the Linux time server ntp cannot quite cope with this leap second and, especially with Debian systems, causes a high CPU load and other problems that make the server almost unusable. A simple solution is to reboot the system (preferably "gently" via the command line), other solutions without a reboot and further technical background information on this software problem can be found on the Netway blog. Should your server still have problems after a reboot, our support team will be happy to help.
